Media Genesis Looking to End 2007 with a Bang!

October 18, 2007

The Madison Heights, Michigan-based internet technologies firm will be a Troy-based firm by the time the ball drops. By then, the 48 project managers, engineers, programmer and designers will have moved into a new 35,000 square-foot facility near the corner of Maple and Stephenson roads. It is a good thing too, since the only thing stopping Media Genesis from meeting its goal of having 50 employees by 2008 was the fact that there was simply no more room for them in their old facilities.

Media Genesis began 2007 with 30 full time employees.

Furthermore, Media Genesis will have several other items from the firm’s 2007 list of resolutions well under control by year’s end. Primarily the team will wrapped up all of the internet-based training projects scoped out earlier this year, as well as won several new accounts.

Media Genesis is a leader in interactive training. MG recently won contracts to do all interactive certification training, and several 2008 and 2009 vehicle training courses for two domestic automakers and one international automaker. The company is projected to wrap up about 40 similar e-learning course December of this year.

Media Genesis is expecting similar growth in 2008.

A New Beginning

October 1, 2007

A $3.7 million relocation plan, 155 new jobs and a Michigan State tax credit valued at $1.3 million might seem like a big move.

Believe it or not it, big moves were always in the back of his mind in 1996 when Brad Frederick founded Media Genesis. While, Real estate and state commissions weren’t always leading the business plans when Frederick’s operation met over a billiards table, in lew of the board room, the mission was always the same.

“I always hoped that Media Genesis would have an impact on the way people perceived technology companies in the Detroit area”, said the Frederick, CEO of the Madison Heights-based internet technology company. “I hope that our continued growth and residency in Michigan inspires other companies to make it happen the area.”

Last month, Frederick and Media Genesis President Antoine Dubeauclard learned that the Michigan Economic Development Corp. would grant the high-tech partners $1.3 million in tax credit over the next seven years.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with how quickly and efficiently the state made the process. It has really put us in a good position to make the improvements and the additions that we have been envisioning,” said Dubeauclard. “The best part is that we can do it now, rather than wonder when the best time will be.”

Both partners have ambition to continue creating jobs in the state, they said. Media Genesis has never been a passive presence in the community. With long term involvement with nonprofits, like The Greening of Detroit; and with Frederick being named the Troy Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year, the company is a welcome addition to any community.

Media Genesis has quickly out grown its home in Madison Heights, and will soon be moving to a much larger facility in Troy, where Dubeauclard hopes the technology group will continue to do more than just facilitate e-learning programs and build websites.

“The building that we are pursuing would allow us to have a very new-urban setup,” he said. “Ideally we could get some cool tenants, like a clothing merchant or a café to fill up the storefront spaces that we’ll have. From there we could occupy the office space and also have room for a large studio. It’s all very exciting.”

This next step seems to make sense for Media Genesis. The company has always found success in a diverse range of services. From web hosting and programming to video and design, Frederick says there is always more than meets the eye in his shop.

“Diversity is always something that we have been able to take pride in,” said Frederick. “The reality when you step through the doors at Media Genesis is that you can’t possibly predict what you’ll see. It goes way beyond building websites. On any given day, we could be doing a video shoot, creating animation or setting up a print advertising campaign.”

Who know what is next for the rapid-rising Media Genesis?

One thing is for certain: the State of Michigan has one more high-tech leader that won’t be heading west. That is a fact of which Frederick and Dubeauclard are very proud.

Media Genesis CEO Speaks at Forum on Wireless Oakland Rollout

January 25, 2007
Excerpt from Matt Roush's The Great Lakes IT Report

Plan due soon on Wireless Oakland full rollout: Look for a plan on the full rollout schedule of Wireless Oakland within about 60 days, project manager Scott Oppmann told a crowd of about 50 people Wednesday night at a Wireless Oakland public forum, sponsored by Leadership Troy at the Troy Community Center. (Given the nasty weather I was pleasantly surprised at the turnout. There is obviously a lot of interest in this project.) Construction crews began installing the first 10 Wi-Fi access points in Troy this week for the system, which will offer 128-kilobit download speeds free, with higher speeds available at a relatively modest cost. The system won't cost taxpayers a dime, as sponsor MichTel and its partners will get revenue from those upsells, as well as from advertising on a landing page that all users will have to pass through to get the free access. Oppmann was joined in a panel discussion by Brad Frederick, CEO of Madison Heights IT consultants Media Genesis, and Phillip Kwik, director of the Troy Public Library's technology center. Oppmann was the first speaker, outlining Wireless Oakland's history back to County Executive L. Brooks Patterson's February 2005 State of the County Address. Seven pilot areas will be switched on between now and April, he said, bringing free basic Internet access to about 80,000 people in 18.5 square miles. The entire county, 900 square miles, is to get the service by the end of 2008. The plan due in April will spell out who gets what when.

Frederick, for his part, said such municipal Web services are becoming more and more common. Investment in them is projected to rise from $235 million in 2006 to $460 million this year, and more than $3 billion over the next four years. "It's not always the private sector funding these systems," he said. "It's cities saying, 'We want to invest in this for economic growth.'" Frederick also offered several useful tips for home computer users, including turning machines off at night, having realistic expectations about the quality of free service, and using a portable surge protector when plugged in at a public place. He also mentioned a neat Web site, www.anchorfree.com, that will show you free Wi-Fi hot spots. Kwik, for his part, also offered details on municipal Web systems, saying literally hundreds are in the works, including major cities such as Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Ore. and Orlando, Fla. (And, he said, you can keep track of 'em at www.muniwireless.com.) Within five years, he said, wireless Internet will probably blanket most urban areas. Kwik used a nifty demonstration to show the continued relevance of libraries in the Internet era, saying their resources can turn the almost unmanageable torrent of data available on the Web into a manageable stream of high-quality, useful information. (For example, searching Google for "alzheimer's" yields 18.6 million sites -- but a database available free at the library turns that into 38 textbooks and a much more reasonable 17,000 articles, some that haven't even been published yet in print.) The Troy library offers more than 100 electronic databases free. More about the Wireless Oakland project overall at www.oakgov.com/wireless.

Troy Chamber of Commerce Honors Brad Frederick with Volunteer of the Year Award

January 2007

The Troy Chamber of Commerce awarded Brad Frederick with the Volunteer of the Year Award for 2006. "Brad is a standout because of his consistent and substantive activity within the Troy business community," said Troy Chamber of Commerce President Michelle Hodges. "He couples his business minded efforts with a sincere desire to enhance and improve the community at large. He is no doubt an important asset."

The award is based on Mr. Frederick's personal involvement with the chamber, generous donation of business resources and time dedicated to the chamber throughout the year, explained Hodges.

"I was honored to receive this award on behalf of our company," said Frederick, Founder and CEO of Media Genesis, a website solutions design company. "In our case, the award really should read 'Volunteer Company of the Year' as our staff has also donated many hours over this past year. We have been active chamber members for the past 10 years and are proud of the contributions by our team to their many initiatives," said Frederick, a former board chairman.

Frederick volunteered Media Genesis to develop the SmartZone Maximization Committee's "Ask an Expert" section for the Troy Chamber of Commerce website. The innovative feature found on www.troychamber.com facilitates online discussion with Troy Chamber of Commerce members and experts in topics ranging from commercial real estate and quality of life to electronic communications and finance. "Ask an Expert" allows people in the area to contact local professionals anytime online and introduces the community to the Troy Chamber of Commerce.

"We do business with many first-class organizations that are Troy Chamber members - ADP, Altair Engineering, ArvinMeritor - just to name a few of the A's," said Frederick. "Our active involvement and relationship with the Troy Chamber over the past 10 years has been mutually beneficial. Our business was up 45% in 2006 and we are projecting that same growth for 2007."
